Jennifer Self, DVM

Jennifer Self, DVM

Dr. Self is the proud owner of Lake Forest Animal Clinic. She graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2001. Dr. Self’s special interests include internal medicine, dermatology, and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Self is a member of AVMA, CVMA, and SCVMA. She has worked as a veterinarian at the animal shelter and with various pet rescue groups. Dr. Self keeps busy taking care of her two teenage daughters, her pit-bull mix Stormy and corgi-chihuahua mix Callie, as well as our hospital mascot cat Ziggy. Dr. Self enjoys the exciting field of veterinary medicine and loves helping her clients and their wonderful pets.

Jason Trope, DVM

Jason Trope, DVM

Dr. Trope received his bachelor degree in biology (biochemistry) from Purdue University in 1995 and graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 1999. Dr. Trope’s special interests are surgery, specifically intestinal and bladder surgery.  In his free time he sails and scuba dives.

Helen Smith, DVM

Helen Smith, DVM

Dr. Smith recently moved to the area from the East Coast. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science & her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. She practiced veterinary medicine in South Carolina for 8 years before moving to California. Her husband is a neuropharmacologist. They have two dogs they love – Hannah, a Border Collie/Heeler mix, and Impi, a Pug/Boston mix. Dr. Smith enjoys internal medicine & preventative care. She thrives in getting to know both her clients & patients to deliver a high standard of care that fits the lifestyle of each patient. In her spare time she loves going to the beach, hiking & discovering her new home. Dr. Smith looks forward to meeting your furry companion!
Lara Alkofer, DVM

Lara Alkofer, DVM

Dr. Alkofer grew up in Summerville, SC, and graduated with a BS in Biology from Wofford College (whoo hoo Terriers). After working in the Biotech field at Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, she decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and graduated from Washington State University (go Cougs!) School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. After spending several years working primarily as an emergency veterinarian, she relocated to Orange County, CA in 2003. Since then, she has been enjoying small animal practice as a relief veterinarian at several practices throughout south Orange County. Since 2017, she has spent much of her time at Lake Forest Animal Clinic. She loves her patients, the clients, and the great collaboration with the other doctors and staff. When she is not working, she spends time with her family enjoying Southern California’s great outdoors.

Meet Our Amazing Team!

Amy - Office Manager

Amy recently joined Lake Forest Animal Clinic in July 2018.  She is currently working as a manager and enjoys working hands-on with our patients.  Amy has a strong interest in client education and takes pride in providing our clients with quality service and a personal touch.  With over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field, she is a great member of our team. Amy lives in Mission Viejo with her husband, son, two cats, Oreo and Tilly, their Bearded Dragon Rose and their dogs, K.C. and Emily and last but not least cranky Frank their cockatiel.

Alma – Groomer

Alma groomed her first dog when she was just 12 years old, and after that, she was hooked.  She found a school that was taught by an award-winning groomer, Marcia Hill and learned the proper way to groom both dogs and cats. She spent 15 years competing in grooming competitions and acquired over 20 awards.  Alma has been grooming for 35 years, loves her profession and takes pride in what she does. She loves the challenge of taking a dog or cat that has been turned away from another groomer, has been abused, or is just a young animal that has never been groomed, and transforming them inside and out by building that relationship of trust. She feels every pet is unique and tries to learn and listen to the individual needs of each pet.  Alma has two dogs, a Chocolate Lab and a Jack Russell Terrier, and two unique cats, a Bambino, and a Sphynx.  Alma has four adorable grandbabies and enjoys spending as much time a s possible with them. She also enjoys traveling, camping, and going to her river house with her husband. We are so thankful to have such an amazing groomer as part of our team, she really is the dog whisperer!

Kim - Veterinary Receptionist
Kim has been in the veterinary field for 33 years. She has been at LFAC for 10 years. Kim has the ability to make anyone laugh and can put a huge smile on anyone’s face. Her nurturing nature was made to take care of pets and people. Kim’s goal is to learn something new every day. Kim has one Shih Tzu named Nya and enjoys camping, wine tasting, music, and sports. Kim loves all animals. She grew up on a farm in Columbus, Ohio. She’s owned cats, dogs, chickens, and cows.
Haley – Veterinary Technician
Haley has been at LFAC since 2013. She has always had a love for animals, specifically especially dogs. At home her fur family consists of a Pitbull named Yogi, a German Shorthair Pointer named Rhett, and a Highland Lynx named Flynn Rider. Her goal is to take care of each animal like it’s her own and make sure that the clients are happy with the results and quality care. Haley is a Southern California native who loves spending her free time down at the beach with her 5-year-old daughter. Haley is also a yoga instructor and in her free time, she enjoys being outdoors doing activities like running trails, hiking, and even paddle boarding.
Gina E., RVT - Veterinary Technician

Gina grew up in Orange County and has worked in the veterinary field for the past 26 years.  In 2004, she became a licensed veterinary technician and spent the following 13 years at a veterinary specialty practice in Palm Desert, California. She recently returned to Orange County and general veterinary practice. Gina has received extensive training in small animal anesthesia, pain management and medical oncology and has lectured to her fellow technicians on several occasions. She enjoys learning and is constantly expanding her knowledge of veterinary medicine. When not working, Gina reads and spends time with her husband, four children, three cats and a dog.

Julie - Veterinary Assistant
Julie has always loved animals and being part of a team. She has two dogs named Junior and Lily, and also recently adopted a kitten named Motor. Julie speaks both English and Spanish, and constantly is learning new things. She is currently in school to get her R.V.T. license and is very excited about expanding her knowledge in the Veterinary field to help as many fur friends as she can. When Julie is not working she enjoys working out, going to the beach, and a nice quiet day inside with all her fur babies.
Sean - Veterinary Assistant
Sean has always loved animals. When he was two years old his dream job was to be a zookeeper. Sean has been working at LFAC since spring of 2019. Sean adopted two kittens from our clinic! Their names are Patch and Oreo. Sean says they are the sweetest little troublemakers you will ever meet. When Sean isn’t working, he enjoys drawing, playing video games, and taking animation classes at Saddleback College.
Eva - Veterinary Assistant

Eva has always had a love and passion for animals at a very young age. She attended Stanbridge University and received an Associates of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology, her goal is to get her R.V.T. license. During Eva’s free time she loves spending time with her family, especially at her nephew’s soccer games cheering them on from the sidelines. She also enjoys being with friends and spending quality time with her boyfriend, and their cats Sage and Jasper.

Hayley B., RVT - Technician Supervisor
Hayley started with us in October 2019. Hayley has 2 cats named Dale and Simon, and a pitbull named Borris. She has always loved animals and originally wanted to be a marine biologist. Hayley received her RVT license in 2015 and has a special interest in Dentistry and Ultrasound. Hayley enjoys helping pets and communicating with their owners here at the clinic. In her free time, she enjoys working out, going to the beach, kayaking, and hiking.

Christie - Veterinary Receptionist
Christie has been with us at LFAC since March 2019. She currently has 3 Shih Tzu dogs. They all have cute little ponytail’s and are usually dressed in adorable clothes! Christie has earned a Bachelor Degree in Marketing. She would love to be a Vet Tech in the future. She has three children. She is also a cheer and dance mom!
Karin – Pharmacy Technician

Karin has been in the veterinary field for over 15 years, and been with us since 2009. She owns a variety of animals: dogs, cats, bunnies, birds and even horses.  Karin and her daughter care for foster animals from “high-kill” shelters and adopt them into loving homes. They have saved 9 kittens and 2 dogs from euthanasia this last year alone.

Steven - Veterinary Technician
Steven joined the LFAC family in 2018 after earning his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology. Since he was a child, Steven has had a strong connection with animals and uses this to help care for our furry friends. When not in his scrubs, you can find him at the beach, working out in the gym, playing lacrosse, or fishing. In the near future he plans to fulfill his childhood dream and raise a puppy of his own.
Allegra - Veterinary Assistant
Allegra was born in California and grew up in Orange County. Allegra owns a 5 year old Husky named Pete Jones who loves to skate and go on car rides. She is also currently in school striving to get a biology degree. Her main goal is to educate the community to improve the health of our loving pets!
Jorrell - Veterinary Assistant
Jorrell has loved animals his whole life. He has owned several dogs over the years and hopes to have more in the future. He has worked in the animal related field for over 15 years. Jorrell is close with his family and enjoys spending time with them. In his free time he likes to go to the range, spend time fishing and hanging out with friends.
Alyrra - Veterinary Assistant

Michelle - Veterinary Assistant
Michelle has one chihuahua named Luna. Michelle’s love for animals developed at a very young age. She has a passion for taking care of dogs and cats. When she’s not working, you can find her playing soccer with her siblings, going out with friends, and playing with her puppy.
